Founded in 1985, this year the Sharon Classic Road Race is in its 33rd year. What started out as a small fundraiser to benefit the Sharon Day Care Center has become one of the most welcomed events of the spring in Litchfield County. Seen as the event that kicks off the local Road Racing season, the Sharon Classic Road Race draws participants of all ages and skill levels, and encourages walkers to participate as well.
The Main Event of the race is a 5 mile run described as a “lollipop” route that starts in town, brings runners past some of Sharon’s most notable estates and though the scenic rolling countryside, before looping back into town. This race begins at 10:15 a.m., with Registration beginning at 8:15 a.m., and awards $250 to the first female and male finisher, as well as $250 for setting a new course record. Additional cash and prizes are available at other levels.
Kid’s events begin at 9:30 a.m. with a “Fun Run,” which is organized into two separate groups. The ever-popular “Not-Quite-A-Mile Kid’s Run” begins at 9:45 and is for kids up to age 12.
Don’t let not being a runner make you shy away from this great event! In addition to the races, there is a Silent Auction with donations from local restaurants, businesses, artists & more, Massages, a Bounce House, Great Food, Live Music and more. And remember, your participation at this great Family/Community event supports Sharon Day Care Center, a vital organization for many local families.
