Let the skiing begin! This week the Litchfield Hills are again glistening with beauty and the spirits of winter-warriors are alive with excitement!
The Berkshires have attracted skiers for over a century and skiing has become a large part of the area’s culture. In fact, below average snow-fall in the winter of 1949 challenged local ski enthusiast, Walter R. Schoenknecht of Mohawk Mountain, to get creative. Schoenknecht’s passion for skiing guided him through extensive research and experimentation for nearly a decade and culminated in a design that would forever revolutionize the sport of skiing – the first artificial snow machine! To this day, we are spoiled with pristine skiing throughout the area due to our natural geography as well as the savvy community of people whose synergy creates a culture of winter adventure!
Those who ski together, stick together!
