The Spirit of the Season

November 10th, 2017

“No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.”
-Aesop

Thanksgiving is just around the corner, marking the beginning of the Holiday Season. More than just a time of celebration and tradition, the Holiday Season is when we take a moment to pause and reflect upon all that we have for which to be grateful. It is perhaps because of this reflection that the Holiday Season is also the time of year that the most charitable contributions are made.

For many, giving during the Holidays is just one of many traditions of the season. To those who are new to Holiday giving, the choice of how to best contribute can seem a daunting task. Those seeking to give to a national or global charity need only do a quick internet search to find myriad choices. Articles such as Charitable Giving Tips for the Holidays and 6 Ways To Give To Charity During The Holidays can help ensure that your contribution is the most effective.

Of course, giving at home is usually the best way to guarantee that the most if made of your contributions. Locally, there are a number of Charitable Organizations that work tirelessly to ensure that our neighbors in need are able to provide their families a happy Holiday Season. Throughout our Tri-State Region, schools, businesses, civic organizations and private citizens come together to host various food drives, winter clothing drives, and toy drives, all with the unified goal of providing for community members in need. Without the generosity of those able to give, these organizations would not survive. This Holiday Season, take time to consider the gift of giving, for, in the words of ancient philosopher Tao Te Ching, “The heart that gives, gathers.”

For more information on how to make a contribution, contact one of the following:  Sunday In The Country Food Drive, 914-475-5918; The Corner Food Pantry, 860-435-9886; The North East Community Center, 518-789-4259.
Additionally, contributions can be made at many businesses throughout the region, such as LaBonne’s Market in Salisbury, CT or any branch of Salisbury Bank & Trust Co.
