St. Patrick’s Day or the Feast of St. Patrick is a cultural and religious holiday celebrated annually on March 17th, the death date of the most commonly recognized patron saint of Ireland, St. Patrick (c.AD 385-461). The day commemorates Saint Patrick and the arrival of Christianity in Ireland, as well as celebrating the heritage and culture of the Irish in general.
On Monday, March 17 people all over the world will be celebrating St. Patrick’s Day with public parades, festivals and the wearing of green attire or shamrocks. Christians will be attending church services and the Lenten restrictions on eating and drinking alcohol will be lifted for the day. Here in the Northwest corner is no exception – Irish and non-Irish alike will be celebrating St. Patrick’s Day. Have a safe and happy day.
