“A dear friend and an integral part of
EHRE since its formative days.
I owe so much to her. Starting a real estate company with just two years of real estate under my belt was audacious. Barbara helped to give me the experience and courage I needed to compete with the established firms. She brought her good business sense, integrity, determination and sheer grit to the office. She enjoyed introducing the town she loved to those interested in a home, a project, or an investment.
She and her husband Frank established the Northwest Corner Jewish Community Center and after Frank’s passing, Barbara continued her commitment to organizing their religious events. Ecumenical in all her beliefs, The Reverend Joseph Kurnath at St Mary’s RC Church was a dear friend. Barbara’s faith was her compass and we often enjoyed discussing where the world was going!
We will all miss her cheery smile – “Hello Darling” – her competitive energy bounded by a strict sense of propriety. She set a high bar for us all. It is fitting to continue her memory at the Scoville Library – she was indeed a voracious reader.
Her wonderful family would often stop in while Barbara was on duty. To watch her grandchildren grow was a highlight that we all shared with her – Ellyn & Larry’s children, Wesley and Jordan were always comfortable just stopping in to see what Barbara was up to. They were all a part of our family. We all enjoyed the tales of Stuart in Florida when Barbara would return from her annual winter retreat. Michelle and Peter with their beautiful twins gave her much joy as did the other members of her family. I cherish her memory and am grateful to have had Barbara and her loyalty for almost thirty years.
Everyone at Elyse Harney Real Estate has their special memories of Barbara – she will be sorely missed.” Elyse D. Harney (March 3, 2020)
